Casual Chique
2016
Synopsis
Casual Chique combines a video installation displayed in the Gaivotas 6’s main room and a photography exhibition hosted by three shops located in Rua do Poço dos Negros (Lisbon).
A butcher shop, a photography studio and a restaurant form the stage for each of the photographic sessions. A primary social nature is accentuated, as well as the communication and survival challenges felt by independent artists and small traders who live under a capitalist system.
It proposes a confrontation between languages and a revival of urban neighbourhoods. A crossover between the gaze of photographer Rui Palma (Canção do Engate, Juventude Inquieta, A contracapa da VFNO) and SillySeason most recent creations. Its purpose is to inscribe the artist in a historical, political, and social context.
